Courtesy of Darley Limited, printers, the Trust has digitised a collection of labels from Worthington & Co brands that depict where they were bottled. The collection includes over 100 White Shield, 55 Worthington E (3 different styles) and a dozen Bass Pale Ale labels.
Each label contains details of the Brewers or bottlers name or a code, allocated by Worthington & Co to identify the bottler whose geographical range spreads from Torquay to Elgin.
The labels are all post war but back then, tanker loads of these brands were shipped out to the locality where they were intended for sale and bottled there. At the time there were around 2850 bottlers, including 1000 in Eire, many of them bottling little more than a hogshead or a butt!
